About
Since
its founding in 1880 the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
has strived to be the premier worldwide organization for promoting the art,
science, and practice of mechanical engineering. Today ASME is comprised of
over 125,000 members from around the globe, making up over 400 sections and
student sections including Iowa State University's. The society serves
engineering professionals, students, and educators alike.
The Iowa State University section of ASME is completely student run. It
provides student members with the opportunities to grow beyond the
classroom. The section has many activities throughout the academic year
that are geared towards extended learning. These include industry sponsored
meetings, professional discussions, and design contests.
Company reps frequently visit our regularly scheduled general meetings and
Friday After Class (FAC) social events to meet members and talk about their
company.
Shadowing
Cabinet Positions
The
ASME cabinet offers the chance now to shadow a person's roll in the cabinet
for the opportunity to learn about the cabinet before elections in the
spring. These people help the current cabinet to fulfill their rolls
on cabinet and are known for volunteering and getting involved where
needed. If you are interested in shadowing a cabinet position, please
contact asmepresident@iastate.edu
with your name and position in which you are interested. Names of
shadows will be listed below with the regular cabinet.

handling all the money transactions throughout the semester. The

funding for every project. The last responsibility of the treasurer is to
set a budget for each project and hold each project manager to that set
amount.

Secretary
asmesecretary@iastate.edu
The primary job of the secretary is to take the
minutes at the meeting. The secretary has to type up the minutes
and send them via e-mail to the Cabinet. This allows cabinet

can get any tasks they need to complete in the upcoming week from the
meeting minute action items.
